What is occupational therapy you ask? Depending on whom you ask you make it a couple different answers. Occupational therapists believe that there is a defiant influence between your job and your health. Therapists have done studies which have shown when there are major changes in a person’s occupation; a person’s performance in their everyday life is impacted. You’ll find that most therapists believe there is a close connection between a person’s well-being, their health, and their occupation.
One definition of occupational therapy is that it is the treatment or rehabilitation of psychiatric and physical conditions through many activities in order to regain one’s independence. In short, occupational therapy uses creative therapeutic activities to achieve and accomplish goals in order to reduce any dysfunction patient may have. Some of the goals is profession has focused on individuals achievements, thus enabling the individual to gain satisfactory performances in his or her goals rather than striding for conformity toward normality in their professions.
Occupational therapists start with identifying specific skills that are needed for their patience occupations. They assess Paul on the needs a patient may have or which are important to him or her. They will help their patient relearn, develop and/or maintain skills needed in order to perform well in their jobs. OT’s find it important to teach their patients the balance of daily life and leisure with productivity of their occupations.
Occupational therapists start by first concerning themselves with their patient’s duties at work. They do this knowing that persons daily work activities can become disrupted when a person becomes sick either psychologically or physically. There is no set standard to treatment and occupational therapy. Each individual is met with a therapist one-on-one evaluate the treatment program that will carry the objectives and goals for that individual.
Occupational therapy uses the idea of activities as therapeutic medicine. They believe that improving and individuals functionality in daily activity can be just as important to the mind as to the body. There are two styles of activities to occupational therapy; the first style is day-to-day living or day-to-day activities things that you do maintaining your home and the second is therapeutic activities such as group activities. Together occupational therapist and the patient work within set parameters and goals, strive to enhance a person’s ability to recover skills or regain a person’s independence that is detrimental to the patient’s life.
